ARBONNE ‘CALM’ RANGE REVIEW

Skincare

Recently I have been approached by an Arbonne representative ,Gabriella, and have been given the chance to try the ‘Calm’ range; which is perfect for sensitive skin, and I thought I would share my views on the products with you.

Arbonne

Arbonne is an international company which sells pure, natural products; ranging from skincare and make up to nutrition. The company has been running for over 35 years and their mission is to “always improve and evaluate our ingredient policy as an ever-evolving standard of excellence.”

The Calm range includes four products; a gentle daily cleanser, gentle daily moisturiser, soothing facial serum and a soothing eye gel.

Arbonne Gentle Daily Cleanser, (£20)- This cleanser is very effective at taking any make-up left off and it is very gentle; due to the cucumber extracts. Another great thing about this cleanser, is that it is vegan and gluten-free and this product does not have a fragrance; so it is perfect for those with very sensitive skin! However, I do not feel that this cleanser is as intense for a night cleanse alone, but it is ideal for the second cleanse or morning cleanse.

Arbonne Gentle Daily Moisturiser, (£30)- I was also able to try the gentle daily moisturiser. I really enjoyed using this product because it is light weight and absorbs into the skin very quickly. After using this product, my skin felt soothed; due to the aloe vera and cucumber extracts, and softer; this is because of the liquorice ingredient. Just like the cleanser, this product does not have a fragrance and is vegan!

Arbonne Soothing Facial Serum, (£41)- The soothing facial serum is also very light weight and did leave my skin feeling tacky; as it absorbed into my skin very quickly. I found this product particularly effective at soothing my skin when it felt irritated; so I would highly recommend it to those with sensitive skin or irritations on the skin. My skin also felt very hydrated; due to the aloe vera extracts, and felt softer and soothed; due to the ingredient mallow. I really liked the pipette for this product, because it released the same amount of the serum each time; so each drop was a consistent amount, ensuring that the product will not run out too quickly!

Arbonne Soothing Eye Gel, (£26)- This was my favourite product from the Calm range, because it is so soothing; particularly due to the cooling eye roller applicator; which left my eyes feeling refreshed! Also, after using this product, I saw a significant change in the appearance of reduced dark circles and puffiness. I would definitely recommend this product because it is perfect to use, as it is not to thick and absorbs into the skin very quickly.

Overall, I have enjoyed using this Arbonne Calm range and am currently thinking about purchasing the Advanced Prepwork Gel Eye Masks to test out! My favourite product from this range is definitely the soothing eye gel, as it is so refreshing and made me feel very relaxed! The Arbonne Representative I have been in touch with, Gabriella Mauro was extremely helpful, kind and lovely, I would definitely recommend talking to her if you have any queries or would like to try some of Arbonne’s products!

REVIEW OF REN SKINCARE ‘EVERCALM’ RANGE

Skincare

ren

REN skincare is a British brand founded by Robert Calcraft and Antony  Buck in 2000. One reason why I love the brand REN and it’s products is that they have an amazing ethos; they are cruelty free and believe in clean skincare; therefore their products only contain natural ingredients and do not contain parabens, sulphates, mineral oil, petrolatum, synthetic fragrance, synthetic colours, T.E.A, D.E.A or silicones. This is very important to me because I do not want to put anything harmful onto my skin as it can have many long-term negative affects; for example parabens have been found in breast tumours and sulphates can have many negative effects on your hair; this includes hair loss, irritations and drying.

Recently, I have been very lucky to have received REN skincare’s entire Evercalm range; which is specifically for those with sensitive skin! The collection contains a gentle cleansing milk, a gentle cleansing gel, a global protection day cream, an anti-redness serum, an ultra comforting rescue mask and the brand new product from this range; an overnight recovery balm!

REN Gentle Cleansing Milk (£19)-I have always been a fan of cleansing milks for my skin because I do suffer with dry skin; particularly when the weather is colder, which is often the case in England! I felt that this cleansing milk is ideal for my skin because it is so nourishing and the texture of this product makes it perfect to use to massage my skin; to clear my pores! Also, it is so gentle that is perfect for a double cleanse and a little bit of the product goes a long way; especially with the product’s pump, which makes it very hygienic. This product is ideal for those with sensitive skin or those who suffer with acne and rosacea, as it is proven to reduce redness and irritation on the skin!

REN Gentle Cleansing Gel (£19- I have been using this product a few times a week; for a deeper cleanse, and the cleansing for the other cleanses. I really like the consistency of this gel and the fact that it cleans all evidence of the day without irritating or drying the skin! Previously, I have found that sensitive cleansing gels tend to not be as effective at deeper cleanses, however that it is not the case with this cleanser! This product is perfect for sensitive skin as it contains beta-glucan; which reduces redness and irritation, and prebiotics; which are proven to balance the skin’s natural bacteria; making this product ideal for those suffering with acne as well!

REN Global Protection Day Cream (£32)-This day cream is so lovely as it left my skin feeling hydrated, soft and it smells beautiful; which is 100% natural! The day cream contains blackcurrant seed which is the reason why this product makes my skin feel so smooth and moisturised. However, this day cream also helps protect the skin from future affects; like premature ageing and reduce the skin’s appearance of redness and irritation!

REN Anti-Redness Serum (£32)-I was also excited to try this anti-redness serum by REN because it is a protective serum and can prevent effects of ageing of the skin and redness. After using this serum, my skin felt hydrated and it left y skin feeling less irritated! The best thing about this product is that it trains the skin to be less sensitive and fights against premature ageing; so it solves future as well as present problems!

REN Ultra Comforting Rescue Mask (£30)- This product was one of my favourites because it is so soothing on the skin; I use this product whenever my skin feels extra irritated/sensitive and it does the trick! After 15 minutes I take this mask off and it leaves my skin glowing, feeling hydrated and smoother! I have also experimented using this mask as an overnight face mask and the results were incredible; my skin tone seemed even and my skin felt as soft as silk!! I love the packaging of this mask because it also has a pump; which means that the product is not contaminated after one use, also it comes with a small lid to attach to the nozzle; to avoid the product drying out!

REN Overnight Recovery Balm (£40)- The product I was most excited to use was this overnight recovery balm because it is brand new to the range! I placed this product on my cleansed skin; instead of a moisturiser, and when I woke up I was amazed with the results! My skin felt hydrated, soft and there was no sign of irritation; this is due to the ingredients a this product contains almond oil and linseed oil, which are known for replenishing and nourishing the skin as enzimatic activated oils go deeper into the skin! Moreover, the sunflower extract in this product soothes the skin; as it helps repair the skin barrier, and the yeast extract reduces the skins sensitivity. I really loved this product as it left my skin feeling brand new!!

Overall, I highly recommend the REN skincare Evercalm range to those who suffer with very sensitive skin, as it is such a soothing and hydrating collection! My two personal favourite products from this range are definitely the Overnight Recovery Balm and the Ultra Comforting Rescue Mask, because they are so effective for my skin and left my skin feeling brand new!

FAVOURITE FACIAL MISTS

Skincare

Facial mists are known as the new toners; they can make your makeup look glowy, hydrate your skin and can balance out oil production.

I thought I would share with you my growing collection of facial mists!

facial mists

MARIO BADESCU

Mario Badescu are famous for their three facial sprays;

  1. Facial Spray With Aloe Herbs and Rose Water (£7-£11)- This facial mist is my favourite Mario Badescu facial spray because it is beautiful, not only does it make my skin feel hydrated, it also calms and tones my skin! I have been using this product before applying my makeup and it has been very effective. I recommend this facial spray because it leaves your skin looking dewy and radiant!
  2. Facial Spray with Aloe Cucumber And Green Tea (£7-£11)-The Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe Cucumber And Green Tea tones and revives tired skin. Also this product contains cucumber extract and peppermint; which have a cooling effect on the skin. I really like this facial spray because it is extremely hydrating and makes my skin feel soft.
  3. Facial Spray with Aloe, Chamomile and Lavender (£7-£11)-I find this facial mist extremely calming and so I am always spraying this facial mist throughout the day!

CAUDALIE

  1. Caudalie Beauty elixir (£12-£32)-This is one of my favourite skin care products! The beauty elixir makes me feel like I am at a spa; as it smells beautiful and is very calming! This facial spray contains grapes; which plumps and moisturises the skin, rose extract; which tones the skin and rosemary; known for energising the skin. I really recommend this product because it is perfect for setting make up, tightens pores and hydrates the skin.
  2.  Caudalie Grape Water (£6-£11)-I also love this Caudalie grape water because it contains 100% natural ingredients; due to its key ingredient being extracted from grapes; which moisturises and soothes the skin. I really like how this product makes my skin feel fresh and hydrated, without leaving any residue or irritating my skin. This makes it ideal for sensitive skin!

Extra Facial Mists from low to high in price:

Evian Facial Spray (£8.95)-I recently bought this facial mist to use before doing my makeup. This facial mist is great for gently hydrating the skin and perfect to take in your travel bag to a hot country, as it is so refreshing and cooling!

Avène Eau Thermale (£13)- I think this facial spray is ideal for sensitive and easily irritated skin because it is so gentle and is proven to be effective at soothing sun burns! Also, just like the Evian Facial Spray, this mist is great at refreshing and cooling the skin and setting makeup!

Origins Ginzing Energy-Boosting Treatment Lotion Mist (£18.50)- This facial mist is amazing to use in the morning or during the day as it is very refreshing; due to the citrus lemon peel oil and orange extract, and energising; as this product has caffeine as an ingredient. However, this mist’s sprayer is not as strong as the Mario Badescu or Caudalie facial mists; as only a little bit of the product comes out in one squirt!

REN Flash Defence Anti-Pollution Mist (£24)-I also love this facial mist because it is suitable for all skin types and fights against pollution damaging the skin; by creating a barrier, due to the ingredient biosaccharide gum. This makes this mist ideal to use when you are in busy cities; for example I always use this spray before and during visits to London. Moreover, I also use this spray before and during a flight, because the air conditioning on a plane and the plane’s fuel is very harmful for the skin. Pollution causes the skin to have less oxygen, causing premature ageing; therefore skin loses elasticity and wrinkles are formed. Furthermore, when the skin is exposed to smog, it can cause acne, dryness and rashes, this shows that it is vital to protect your skin to prevent these from occurring!

Sisley Paris Floral Spray Mist (£66)- This facial mist costs a lot more than the Evian and Avène facial sprays. However, I love the scent of this mist because it is so floral and the spray is very effective; a little bit of product goes a long way!

Overall, my collection of facial mists is growing and becoming a bit excessive, but I highly recommend purchasing a spray because they are so cooling and refreshing; so they are perfect for the hotter months! Furthermore, as previously explained, they are hydrating refreshing and have toning benefits to your skin.

fresh

If you follow my Instagram, (@EmilyMaySkincare) you may be aware that I have recently purchased a Fresh skincare gift set called Skincare Treasures. Fresh is a skincare brand that was founded in 1991 by Lev Glazman and Alina Roytberg in Boston.

John Lewis, Fresh Skincare Treasures (£49)

It comes with the Fresh Soy Cleanser, the Sugar Face Polish, the Lotus Preserve Face Cream, Lotus Youth Preserve Eye Cream and Sugar Rosé Tinted Lip Treatment SPF 15. The ingredients are natural; this includes soy; which is amino acid-rich, lotus; known for boosting your skin’s radiance and brown sugar; which is great for preserving the skins moisture!

fresh-package-e1532514138874.jpg

Fresh Soy Cleanser: The Fresh Soy Cleanser is an extremely gentle gel cleanser; making it perfect for sensitive skin, this is due to the cucumber and aloe extract ingredients. Not only does this product leave your skin feeling soft and moisturised, but it also tones the skin! I love this product because it makes my skin feel so beautiful and I am definitely going to add it into my morning routine!

Sugar Face Polish: This product is an exfoliating mask made from brown sugar and it can be used three to four times a week on clean, damp skin and should be left on for five to ten minutes.  After, rinse the product off and it will leave your skin feeling very smooth and fresh! I really like this product because it made my skin feel very soft and look more radiant!

Lotus Preserve Face Cream: I also really liked this moisturiser because it made my skin feel hydrated and I immediately noticed my skin looked more radiant and healthier after using this product! The ingredients in this product include: fig fruit extract; which moisturises the skin, lotus flower extract;  defends the skin from radicals that cause wrinkles, and vitamin E which makes the skin feel softer.

Lotus Preserve Eye Cream: The Lotus Preserve Eye Cream has become one of my favourite eye creams; as it is so thick and hydrating due to the ingredients which include hibiscus fruit extract. It leaves the eye area moisturised for twenty-four hours! Also, this product prevents future ageing of the eye area; as it contains lotus flower extract and blue-green algae! This product has become a must-have for me because of the anti-wrinkle properties and the way it makes my eye area feel hydrated!

Sugar Rosé Tinted Lip Treatment SPF 15: Also, this gift set came with the Sugar Rosé Tinted Lip Treatment, which is a beautiful rosy shade; perfect for the Summer! This product made my lips feel hydrated; due to the ingredient of sugar, softer; due to the grapeseed oil and left my lips protected from the sun’s harmful rays!

Overall I would highly recommend this gift set because you get a lot of products for your money. It would make the ideal gift for someone who loves skincare or is a great way of trying out a range of Fresh’s products for less money! The packaging this set comes in is very summery and I loved all of the products inside!

SKINCARE ROUTINE-CAUDALIE EDITION

Skincare

As previously mentioned my favourite skincare brand is the French skincare company Caudalie; founded by husband and wife, Bertrand and Mathilde Thomas. One of the reasons why I love Caudalie so much is the brands ethos; it contains no harmful ingredients; like parabens, and is a cruelty-free brand. Also, Caudalie’s main ingredient is grape extract; including grape seeds, grape sap, grape-seed oil and grapevine stalk, all of  which are sourced from Bordeaux, France.

Continue reading if you’re interested in my excessive skin care routine!

AM:

Caudalie cleansing milk (£15)– This product is incredible, particularly for dehydrated skin. I use this product religiously every morning; as it is important to cleanse away any dead skin cells, which make up the skin barrier.

Caudalie moisturising toner (£15)- After cleansing it is vital to tone your skin; it is like washing your body with soap but not rinsing the product off! Toning clears pores and is particularly important if you have oily or acne-prone skin. I love the Caudalie moisturising toner because it leaves my skin feeling very fresh and clean, yet hydrated.

Caudalie beauty elixir (12)-This product is a MUST have; it is described as a “elixir of youth” and is also extremely portable; it is perfect for using on the go and spraying throughout the day or even spraying when you are feeling stressed. The scent is beautiful and creates a feeling of serenity; it is like being at a spa! Also, this product is great for anti-ageing; as it smooths away fine lines and tightens pores.

Caudalie S.O.S Thirst Quenching Serum (£29)- Next, I use a serum; as serum are made with smaller molecules therefore they penetrate quicker into the skin; this is also why it is important to warm the product in your hands; to activate the product and then gently pat it onto your skin; to allow it to penetrate much faster. I love how hydrating this product is, making it ideal for both summer and winter.

Caudalie Vineactiv energising and smoothing eye cream (£27.50)-After using a serum, I use my ring finger to gently tap a small amount of eye cream around my eyes. I really like this eye cream by Caudalie because it is extremely hydrating and I can see the smoothing-effect it has had on my eyes!

Caudalie Anti-ageing face sun care SPF50 (£20)-Finally, I use a face sun cream; to protect my skin from the sun’s harmful rays. I ensure that the cream has both a high SPF and UVA protection. I have really enjoyed using this sun cream and  I am going to bring it in my travel bag, because it is very thick yet absorbs quickly into my skin; without making my skin appear greasy.

Caudalie make-up removing cleansing oil (£18)-As soon as I return home, the first thing I do is remove all evidence of the day! First I use the Caudalie make-up removing cleansing oil to remove my make-up. This product is easy to use; simply rub in circular motions on your face and was away with a cloth and warm water. I feel this product is very effective at removing all traces of make-up; particularly my water-proof mascara and it is very gentle on the skin.

Caudalie Instant foaming cleanser (£15)-Next, I either use the Caudalie cleansing milk, (mentioned above,) or the instant foaming cleanser, but I always make sure that I double cleanse; as it will remove any sun cream or make up residue, sweat, bacteria and old skin cells. I love the squeaky-clean feeling this product gives yet it doesn’t have a drying effect or leave my skin feeling too tight.

Caudalie moisturising toner (£15)- I then use a toner to ensure all make-up is completely removed and to make my skin feel clean and toned! I use the same toner as I used in the morning, because this Caudalie moisturising toner works very well with my skin- making it look more toned and minimising my pores!

Caudalie beauty elixir (12)- I am a little bit obsessed with the Caudalie beauty elixir so any chance of using it I will! I spray it three times on my neck and face and it leaves me ready to unwind for bed.

Caudalie Vinoperfect radiance serum (£46)- After I use the Caudalie radiance serum; which is proven to be effective at correcting dark spots and helps to even out skin tone. I also find it is a good product to use when I have blemishes, as it seems to make them disappear much quicker!

Caudalie Vineactiv energising and smoothing eye cream (£27.50)-I then use an eye cream and apply it quite thickly to allow it to absorb overnight. I have been using eye cream since I was twelve years old, (I know that’s really  young to be worrying about wrinkles!) and have become a bit obsessed with it, as I love the way it makes my eyes feel!

Caudalie Vinosource moisturising sorbet (£23)-To finish my routine I apply a thicker moisturiser; so that my skin can absorb it overnight. I particularly love this moisturiser because it smells beautiful and is extremely hydrating!

weekly

WEEKLY

Caudalie deep cleansing exfoliator (£20)- Once a week I like to use an exfoliator to remove any dead skin cells and to prevent clogging of the pores; reducing the likelihood of acne and breakouts! I really enjoy using this exfoliator on my skin because it is very effective and makes my skin feel instantly much smoother and minimises my pores!

Caudalie instant detox mask (£22) I also like to do a face mask at least once a week. At the moment I am loving the Caudalie instant detox mask as it has a deep cleansing effect and tightens and minimises pores. However, this product has a calming effect on the skin due to the ingredient of lavender.

I know this may seem a bit too excessive; however I can see the benefits in my skin of using all these products! This post is not sponsored by Caudalie, these are my honest opinions of their products.

SUMMER SKINCARE ESSENTIALS

Skincare

In the midst of this ongoing heatwave, it is important to think about our skincare regime.

The sun has a drying affect on our skin, so it is important to keep it moisturised, but without causing break outs due to excess oil. If you would like to find out some of the products I’ve found beneficial then read on!

emskinblog

I have tried and tested a range of products essential for this season:

CLEANSERS

*Caudalie Instant foaming cleanser (£15)- This product is ideal for removing all evidence of make up and sun cream lotion. The formula is smooth and easy to use; simply just rub it in your hands, apply to your face and add water to activate the product. This product is ideal for those who want a fuss-free cleanser; as it will leave your skin hydrated; due to Caudalie’s key ingredient of grape water.

*Liz Earle hot cloth cleanser (£26)- Liz Earle’s hot cloth cleanser is ideal for all skin types, due to the rich creamy consistency; which breaks down even the toughest make up, sun cream and removes daily grime. I love how this product leaves my skin feeling smooth and clean; as adding hot water also opens pores.

TONERS

*REN Rosa Centifolia, 3 in 1 Cleansing water (£17)- This is a perfect no-fuss product; as it is a make-up remover, cleansing water and toner all in one! It is so gentle that it can be applied onto a cotton pad and used to remove eye make-up; without causing an irritation. I really like how this 3 in 1 cleansing water removes all evidence of the day and minimises my pores also.

*Lush Tea Tree Water (£9.50)- This toner is perfect for throwing in your bag and spritzing throughout the day. It contains tea tree which is known for it’s antibacterial properties; this therefore will reduce blemishes and keep skin clean and clear!

MOISTURISERS

*Caudalie Vinosource Moisturising Sorbet, (£23)- Caudalie’s Vinosoure Moisturising Sorbetis everything you need in a moisturiser; it is extremely hydrating yet light, so it doesn’t leave your skin feeling too greasy. Caudalie’s key ingredient of grape water makes this product very gentle and soothing on the skin.

Vichy Aqualia Thermal Rich (£16)- This is an intensive moisturiser, ideal for dry skin; due to the key ingredient of Hyaluronic acid- which causes the skin to stay hydrated for up to 48 hours! It will leave your skin feeling extremely hydrated and soothed; which is perfect as the sun is known to have a drying affect.

SUN CREAM PROTECTION

*Caudalie Soleli Divin anti-ageing face suncream SPF 50 UVA (£20)- I have been using this product religiously since March! I love how thick and soothing it is yet it absorbs quickly; therefore it doesn’t leave greasy evidence. Being a red head with fair skin, I feel it is extremely important to protect my skin; so the fact that this product is SPF 50 ( however they also sell a SPF 30 sun cream) and is UVA protected, ensures my skin is safe from the sun’s harmful rays.

Soltan once face advanced 8 hour protection suncare cream (£10)- Soltan once sun creamhas the highest UVA star rating of 5 stars and is SPF 30; therefore this product can prevent ageing and long-term skin damaged caused by the sun. Moreover, this product is ideal for children and those who prefer to swim rather than sit in the sun, as it is water proof!

Products marked with a “*” are cruelty-free!
